Opinion - The BreakUp Of The Union Is Real

It's going to be a very interesting next year - and the years to come - in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

In Scotland, the Tories are all but wiped out. The SNP has again a massively increased majority, and if Johnson has a 'mandate' for Brexit south of the border, then the SNP clearly have one for Devolution, north.

In Northern Ireland, the DUP has lost its footing, and for the first time ever, there are more pro-United Ireland and pro-Full Devolution MPs elected in the province.

The Irish and the Scots have been victims of several centuries of Stockholm Syndrome, and now they see the light.

The End of the Union may indeed be Boris Johnson's, and Brexit's legacy.

Like the Empire, The Union was never forever. It's time to dismantle it. It served a purpose, for a while. Not quite sure what that purpose ever was, but nothing is sacrosanct.

It's time.
