The London 'No-Go Zones' Myth Resurfaces

As it does, periodically. an Anonymous (they usually are) Canadian account made the periodic claim that there were "Not less than 3 boroughs or suburbs in London" that were 'No-Go Zones'.

Strangely enough, he also listed Cornwall as one of the other cities. We'll forgive our former colonial cousin - this time - his faux-pas of calling Cornwall a city.

But as

Mike Stuchbery stated on Twitter ...
No Go Zones in Cornwall? Only if you haven't got a platinum credit card or a Burberry cost!
Well, I did offer to investigate these 'No-Go Zones' ... if only I knew where they were ? I did ask him - but he seemed strangely, and rather suddenly, quiet ...
Name the boroughs. I’ll literally go through them filming myself. I probably already have, quite recently. You Brave Anonymous Hero, you.
The effervescent Dr Louise Raw even offered to accompany me. Now, who could resist such an offer ??
I’ll come with you John - I’ve been offering to do this for years, BUT when I ask for exact locations, our No Go Warriors go awful quiet...
Still, after putting an appeal on Twitter for location of these 'zones', I got the following responses, leading me to conclude that there are no 'no-go-zones' and that London still has it's wonderful humour ...

Studley ...
The Carlton Club.
Malcolm ...
Wetherspoons. All of them.
Peter O'Hanraha-Hanrahan ...
I wouldn’t advise swimming in the Thames.
ADN ...
The Venue used to get pretty lary on a Saturday night..
Kim ...
Any Waitrose on Christmas Eve. Rampant and murderous middle-classes with more money than manners.
Lee ...
Home baking aisle, Wealdstone Asda on pension day.
Smt ...
Any central London underground station between 4pm and 6:30pm?
Lynne ...
Our local branch of Costa when all the yummy mummies with their 4 wheel drive pushchairs block all the tables.
Simon ...
34 Tufton St?
Griff ...
Think you mean 55 Tufton Street - although 34 might be equally bad!
(55 Tufton Street is home to a small network of right-wing, pro-Brexit, climate-change denying 'think tanks')

Nicola ...
No idea it’s like trying to find Atlantis.
Grubert ...
Has to be that all-you-can-eat buffet at Camberwell Green where the notice giving customer behaviour rules is somewhat larger than the menu.
Iain ...
For me: Claridges, The Ritz and Le Gavroche.
Richard ...
Jon ...
The M&M store in Leicester Square has always been a no go for me ...
Peter ...
I've opened a window, but I'd give it 5 minutes in there.
Tyse ...
North Lambeth - I paid £6.95 for a pint today....never going back there
And our favourite ...

Anonymous ...
The visiting team's penalty area when Tottenham play at home ..

You funny b*rst*rds, you lot :-)

In all seriousness, I also receive, of course, numerous replies from across London ridiculing the premise of any 'No-Go Zones'. Here are some of them ...

Francesca ...
I’ve worked for Lambeth & Waltham Forest Councils and never found one (apart from any route served by the W19 bus as it frequently fails to arrive but you just walk where you want to go)
Gaz ...
Grew up in Bethnal Green, Brick Lane, Whitechapel and none of it ever was closed to me.
Martin ...
I'd be interested in finding out, I've lived in London for over 30 years, worked on dozens of housing estates, lived in in North, South and East London, and worked in West London. Haven't come across any.
Iftikhar ...
I've lived in London for two decades and have yet to experience anything similar myself. I have also never witnessed a 'no-go-area' of the type that is under discussion. Confirmation bias can mask these things though
Anna ...
I haven't found one and I've been to many different area. My son lives in the Brixton area and when he was working at the Barts Institute, I walked there through an area of East London. I have friends in Hackney and islington. None of those is a "No-Go" area to me.
And my own addition ...
I've cycled / motorcycled / walked all around this fair wonderful city of ours, #London. Every postcode, I'm pretty sure. None of it is off-limits to me, or anyone else, and I love all of it.
